Planning a Surprise Proposal in Boulder, Colorado

Eddie reached out a few weeks before a trip to Boulder, Colorado with a plan to propose to his girlfriend, Taylor. He was looking for something secluded that still had that classic Boulder backdrop. As a Colorado couples photographer, I sent over a few options that matched what he had in mind, followed by a video walkthrough since he wouldn’t see the location until the actual day.

Since he wouldn’t be able to visit the location ahead of time, I put together a quick video walkthrough of the location he decided on so he could get a sense of the terrain and layout before the big moment. We talked through the plan, timing, and how to make it all feel natural for Taylor without raising any red flags ahead of the special knee drop.

The weather that day was all over the place — cloudy and rainy for most of the afternoon. But right as we got into position, the sky cleared and gave us this soft, glowy light. The rain actually worked in our favor; the greens were vibrant, the clouds dramatic, and the whole scene had this fresh, quiet energy.

Taylor was completely surprised, and Eddie pulled it off perfectly. After the proposal, we wandered around the area for a bit, taking photos and soaking it all in. The whole evening was easy, meaningful, and full of emotion in the best kinds of ways.

Helping people plan special moments like this is one of my favorite parts of what I do. Whether you’re planning a proposal or just want to capture time together in the mountains, I’m happy to help you figure out the details and make it feel easy from start to finish.
